In a recent interview with the New York Times, baseball player Alex Rodriguez opened up about his struggles with performance-enhancing drugs during his career.
Rodriguez, who retired from professional baseball in 2016, admitted to using PEDs during his time with the Texas Rangers from 2001 to 2003. He claimed that he was under immense pressure to live up to his record-breaking $252 million contract and turned to PEDs as a way to stay competitive.
“It was the worst decision of my life,” Rodriguez said in the interview. “I regret it every day.”
Rodriguez also discussed the backlash he faced from fans and the media once his drug use was exposed. He acknowledged that he let a lot of people down, including his fellow players and fans who had looked up to him.
“It was a dark time in my life, and I take full responsibility for my actions,” Rodriguez said. “I’m just grateful that I was able to learn from my mistakes and move on.”
Despite his past mistakes, Rodriguez has since become a successful baseball analyst and entrepreneur. He has used his platform to advocate for clean sports and mentor young athletes on the importance of integrity and hard work.
“I want to be a positive role model for others,” Rodriguez said. “I want to show that you can overcome adversity and come out stronger on the other side.”
In reflecting on his career and the choices he made, Rodriguez expressed a sense of regret but also gratitude for the lessons he learned along the way.
“I wouldn’t change a thing because it made me who I am today,” Rodriguez said. “I’m proud of the person I’ve become, and I’m thankful for the opportunities that baseball has given me.”
